Allyship
Allyship is the practice of emphasizing social justice, inclusion, and human rights by members of a privileged, or dominant social group, to advance the interests of an oppressed or marginalized outgroup.Allyship is part of an anti-oppression or anti-racist discourse, which operationalizes social justice theories and ideals. Allyship can exist in terms of race, indigeneity, or other vectors of oppression. Outcomes of allyship considered to be desirable by proponents include greater diversity in the workplace and empowerment of traditionally marginalized communities.Behaviors that are part of allyship include community action, positive and affirmative use of language, and proactively combating forms of prejudice against marginalized groups such as "heterosexism, cissexism, sexism, ableism," and other forms of discrimination.
