geodesy
English Definitions:
geodesy (noun)
the branch of geology that studies the shape of the earth and the determination of the exact position of geographical points
geodesy (Noun)
scientific discipline that deals with the measurement and representation of earth, its gravitational field and geodynamic phenomena (polar motion, earth tides, and crustal motion) in three‐dimensional, time‐varying space.
Geodesy
Geodesy, also named geodetics, a branch of applied mathematics and earth sciences, is the scientific discipline that deals with the measurement and representation of the Earth, including its gravitational field, in a three-dimensional time-varying space. Geodesists also study geodynamical phenomena such as crustal motion, tides, and polar motion. For this they design global and national control networks, using space and terrestrial techniques while relying on datums and coordinate systems.
Geodesy
Geodesy is the science of measuring and representing in temporally varying 3D of the geometry, gravity, and spatial orientation of the Earth and other astronomical bodies, such as planets or circumplanetary systems when it is called planetary geodesy. Geodynamical phenomena, including crustal motion, tides, and polar motion, can be studied by designing global and national control networks, applying space geodesy and terrestrial geodetic techniques, and relying on datums and coordinate systems. The job titles are geodesist and geodetic surveyor.
